Is my opportunity to graduate from a part-time program preserved by the
law? Does your agency oversee this?
The Department of Higher
Education has required Gibbs College to ensure that students who are
attending part-time receive academic support and are clearly informed of all
options to complete their educations. While there is no law guaranteeing
that part-time students will be able to finish their educations at Gibbs
College before it closes, we continue to work on special transfer
opportunities for Gibbs students so that you may complete your degree, as
explained in Question 1.
3.
No other colleges nearby offer a two-year degree in fashion. What can I do?
Although no colleges
in Connecticut offer degrees in fashion design, both
Briarwood College
and the
University of Bridgeport
offer an associate degree in fashion merchandising.
Gateway
Community College also offers an associate degree in retail
management/fashion merchandising.
Another option is to
explore programs offered through the New England Regional Student Program
which allow students to enroll in programs not available in Connecticut at a
discounted tuition rate. Click
here for more information. You’ll see that Framingham State
College in Massachusetts offers fashion design and retailing,
and the University of Rhode Island offers textiles, fashion
merchandising and design.

7. When Gibbs
College closes, how do I get my transcript?
Gibbs College is making
arrangements to house and manage student records in a central location,

student and each graduate one copy of his or her transcript along with
instructions on how to access your records in the future. That will include
your financial aid records.
8.
I am a Gibbs student and have 2 more terms to complete before finishing up
my associate’s in criminal justice. I will finish in December 2008. Has
this program been accredited and is my degree valid if it is not accredited?
Two Gibbs programs are
currently licensed but not yet accredited to offer degrees: 1) the program
in criminal justice and 2) the program in interior decorating. The
Department of Higher Education is facilitating the expedited accreditation
of these programs by the Board of Governors so that students who complete
these programs will receive an accredited degree. Please check back with
this website for further updates.
9.
Will I be able to continue using the College’s library, counselors, and
