Gibbs
College is accredited by the State of Connecticut through the
Board of Governors
for Higher Education. It also is accredited by a national accrediting body
– the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools which
accredits private postsecondary institutions offering programs designed to
educate students for professional, technical, or occupational careers.
The Board of Governors is
expected to extend State
of Connecticut accreditation for Gibbs College and its programs until December 31, 2009. This means that any degree
awarded by Gibbs College by that date will be fully accredited by the State
of Connecticut.
Gibbs
will discontinue programs only after every student who is enrolled full-time has graduated from each
program.
Two
Gibbs programs are currently licensed but not yet accredited to offer degrees: 1) the program in
criminal justice and 2) the program in interior decorating. The Department of
Higher Education is facilitating the expedited accreditation of these programs
by the Board of Governors so that students who complete these programs will
receive an accredited degree.
