Senior Citizen Tuition Waivers At Connecticut Public Colleges and UniversitiesSenior citizens are welcome on Connecticut public college campuses — so welcome, in fact, they may take courses and earn degrees tuition-free! Seniors aged 62 and older are eligible, by state statute, for tuition waivers at any public college or university in the state — the University of Connecticut, Connecticut State University and the 12 community colleges. Generally, waivers are available only when space exists at the end of a registration period. Other fees, and costs for books and supplies, are not waived. Whether you seek a degree, leisure time activity or personal enrichment, explore the exciting opportunities offered by Connecticut colleges and universities. Join the more than 3,000 seniors already on campus — learning is lifelong! This brochure, prepared by the Education & Employment Information Center (EEIC), provides general information on senior citizen tuition waivers. For specific details, contact the college or university of your choice. Do remember to bring documentation verifying your age, such as a driver's license, when registering for college courses. HOW to QUALIFYPolicies vary among schools. The University of Connecticut offers two options. First, senior citizens may audit undergraduate credit courses on a not-for-academic credit basis for a nominal fee of $15/semester. Seniors may audit any undergraduate course where space exists, except for laboratory or studio-type courses. Second, seniors may seek a tuition waiver when enrolling in credit-bearing undergraduate or graduate degree-granting programs. University and activity fees are not waived. Contact UConn to learn more about this option. Connecticut State University waives tuition for senior citizens for all courses (credit, non-credit and summer Extension Fund offerings), providing seniors are enrolled in a degree-granting program, or that space is available at the end of a regular registration period. Waivers do not cover other university fees. More details may be obtained from each of the four CSU campuses. The 12 community colleges waive tuition for seniors in all General Fund programs, provided space exists. Waivers do not apply to Extension Fund courses which are generally summer school and non-credit, continuing education offerings. Contact the community college near you for more information. OTHER KINDS of HELPHelp for paying college costs is available for veterans and dislocated workers, and for their children.
