The 2011 Connecticut Higher Education Community Service Awards were held on Tuesday, April 12th at 5:00 p.m at the Mark Twain House and Museum in Hartford. Award recipients were selected based on projects which distinctly serve a community, incorporate originality and unique approaches to community service and substantially raise student participation in addressing community needs. This year's Individual Student awards were presented to Colin Carlson, University of Connecticut and Kevin Medeiros, Sacred Heart University; Student Group awardees were Dental Hygiene Serves Connecticut, Tunxis Community College and HuskyTHON, University of Connecticut; and the Special Faculty/Staff award recipient was Betsy Bowen, Fairfield University. Connecticut’s higher education institutions impact communities through service programs implemented and volunteered by students, student groups and educators. The Connecticut Commission on Community Service (CCCS) and the Office of Financial and Academic Affairs for Higher Education are proud to honor volunteers at the annual Connecticut Higher Education Community Service Awards.
