AmeriCorps members are providing needed assistance to millions of Americans
by meeting critical needs in education, public safety, health, homeland
security, and the environment. AmeriCorps members serve through nonprofits,
public agencies, and faith-based organizations, helping to build a culture
of citizenship, service and responsibility. Since 1994, more than 250,000
men and women have served in AmeriCorps.
Full-time members serve a minimum of 1,700 hours during the year. They
receive a living allowance of $11,400, health
benefits, child care if eligible, and an educational award of $4,725.
Part-time members serve 300 to 900 hours and receive an adjusted living
allowance and a pro-rated educational award. To serve in AmeriCorps, you
must be at least 17 years of age, and be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent
resident alien of the U.S. You must be a high school graduate or obtain your
GED before you receive your AmeriCorps education award.
AmeriCorps members in Connecticut devote themselves to tutoring, providing
after-school programs for youth, reducing crime rates in communities,
promoting public safety, improving the environment, increasing early
childhood literacy, and developing self-esteem and social values.
All of us have something to share that can make our communities stronger.
AmeriCorps is about giving everyone a chance to make a difference.
