Remember how much you learned about yourself and your home when you first got to college? Your entire perspective changed! That will happen again when you live abroad. Immersing yourself in another culture brings new perspective and sophistication that cannot be obtained any other way.

The rewards of study abroad extend far into the future. Many participants of this program have received impressive job offers from international firms upon graduation. Others have been awarded Fulbright and other grants for further international study and/or teaching projects overseas. Why Baden-Württemberg?

Situated in the southwestern part of Germany, Baden-Württemberg shares its borders with France, Switzerland, and Austria. This region is filled with picturesque beauty and historical landmarks: Heidelberg Castle, the Black Forest, Lake Constance.

This region is also a powerful economic engine within Europe. Some of the world’s most successful companies are located here: Mercedes-Benz (Daimler-Chrysler), Porsche, and the German computer software giant SAP. Connecticut chose well, wouldn’t you say, when it formed a state-to-state partnership with Baden-Württemberg ten years ago!

Which university is best for you?

It is best to choose your campus after talking with the director of the program.

Some of the most recently established universities such as Mannheim, Karlsruhe, Stuttgart, Hohenheim, and Ulm are equipped to meet particular needs of the modern scientific and technological age: business administration, agricultural economics, engineering.

The oldest and most famous – Heidelberg, Freiburg, and Tübingen – reverberate with the finest traditional areas of study (philosophy, theology, history, law, medicine).

In addition to regular university courses taught in German and English, you will have access to special courses for international students in the Deutsch als Fremdsprache (German as a Second Language) curriculum. Other choices you will have to make are whether you want to go abroad for a semester or two and how many credits you wish to earn (15 credits per semester is average).
