The Recovery Act includes $201 million in funding for the Corporation for National and Community Service to support an expansion of AmeriCorps State and National and AmeriCorps VISTA programs. This investment is a strong vote of confidence in the value of national service in engaging citizens in addressing unmet needs and strengthening communities.

Due to Recovery funding, the Connecticut Commission on Community Service, housed within the Department of Higher Education, has granted Our Piece of the Pie, Inc. twenty-four AmeriCorps member positions. Our Piece of the Pie, Inc. has partnered with Capital Workforce Partners, Hartford's regional Workforce Investment Board and the United Way of Central and Northeastern Connecticut to identify community-based organizations that need to expand their capacity to deliver employment skills training.
